Spring in India is from Mid-March to mid-May

This season is considered a period of flowering and the beginning of new leaves. Cold winds from the mountain and Heat from the sun cause kapha dosha to increase in the body. Hence Strength of the person remains at medium degree and digestion remains mild so should use easily digestible foods

1. Changes in Diet

As our digestion in spring remains mild, so taking less fat and easily digestible food makes you healthier. These are the minor changes we need to make in our diet to stay healthy & reduce Kapha

  • Among cereals Wheat, jowar, millet, rice or Shali rice, should be consumed. All grains should be at least one-year-old.
  • Pulses like lentils and green gram are to be taken.
  • Vegetables like fenugreek leaves, bitter gourd, radish, brinjal, Amaranthus and onion leaves; spices like dry ginger, black pepper, garlic, coriander, cumin, turmeric, etc
  • Those who drink can have Red wine/Draksharishta in this season or Alcohol made out of honey.
  • Roasted or Barbequed meat is healthy in this season (Ayurveda never said not to eat meat)
  • Dishes like wheat baati are good for increased kapha dosha
  • Ginger boiled water or water boiled with chandana
  • The foods that are hard to digest are to be avoided, Like new grains, curd, cold drinks, and so on.

2. Lifestyle Changes in Spring Season

Weather changes from cold winter to warmer temperature thus kapha in the body get liquefied. So regular exercise in this spring season can bring lot of benefits

  • Change from hot water to warm water for bathing purpose
  • One must do exercises regularly
  • Take massages like Udavartana/ Utsadana (Powder massages).
  • Avoid sleeping in the daytime during this season
